ULSTER COUNTY CLERK’S OFFICE ANNOUNCES EXHIBIT RECOGNIZING DONATIONS TO THE ULSTER COUNTY ARCHIVES
Kingston, NY – Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack announces the exhibit “Into My Hands: Recent Donations to the Ulster County Archives” featuring a sampling of records donated to the Ulster County Archives between 2011 and 2022. The exhibit is now on display in the 2nd floor Archives Gallery located in the Ulster County Office Building, 244 Fair Street, Kingston.
In 2005, the Records Donation Program was designed to encourage the rightful return of official county records; those that were at one time created by, filed with, or in the possession of, the County of Ulster. The donations received since then have expanded that original design and we are pleased to share some of the many interesting items now residing in the Archives. Exhibiting these items is also a way to recognize those who have donated. Since the last recognition event in 2010, forty donations of records and dozens of books for our reference library have been received. The Clerk’s Office would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation for their invaluable support and invite them to the Archives Gallery to view the recognition plaques engraved with their names.
The donated records date from 1678 to 2022 and vary in content and form. There are land sale transactions, court records, maps, family collections, photographs, reference books and even an unexpectedly popular “I Voted” sticker. Despite the wide variety of materials included in the donated records, each donation is unique and provides valuable insight into the people and events that have shaped this region over time. Taken together, these materials offer a comprehensive and multi-faceted view of the history of the area, providing a valuable resource for researchers, historians, and anyone interested in learning more about the past.
