The year 2020 marks the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Ulster and Delaware railroad. This proud transportation opened for business in 1870 and practically vanished by the mid-20th century. With its iron horses roaring, the trains helped tourists and commuters (most of them from New York City) travel across the Hudson Valley for several decades. The railroad served five counties: Ulster, Delaware, Greene, Otsego, and Schoharie. Using material from the Ulster County Clerk’s Archives, we hope this exhibit reminds the public of the crucial service the U&D provided during its operation.
