ULSTER COUNTY CLERK INVITES COMMUNITY TO COUNTY OFFICE BUILDING ORGAN DONATION AWARENESS AND INFORMATION

Kingston, NY – The Ulster County Department of Motor Vehicles and the nonprofit organization Donate Life New York State are teaming up to raise awareness of the lifesaving impact made by organ, eye and tissue donors. On Friday, April 14, Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack will be hosting an informational table at the Ulster County Office Building, 244 Fair Street, Kingston, to encourage the public to enroll in the New York State Donate Life Registry.

From 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, join the Ulster County Clerk and Motor Vehicle staff at an informational table in the lobby of the DMV.  Visitors can enjoy refreshments and promotional items while learning about the importance of organ donation.  A single organ donor can save up to eight lives, while tissue and cornea donors can improve more than 75 lives. Ulster County is proud to partner with Donate Life NYS to save and improve the lives of those in need of transplants.

While nearly 3,400 lifesaving organ transplants were performed in state last year, more than 8,100 New Yorkers remain on the national organ transplant waitlist. In 2022, more than 400 patients awaiting an organ transplant in New York State died because the organ needed to save their lives was not donated in time.

Donate Life NYS is a 501©3 nonprofit dedicated to increasing organ, eye, and tissue donation in New York State. Its vision is to ensure a life-changing transplant for every New Yorker in need. Since 2002, the organization has served as the voice for New York’s organ, eye, and tissue donation community, bringing together organ and tissue donor recovery organizations, transplant centers, health professionals, community organizations, and people whose lives have been touched by its mission. Donate Life NYS also operates and administers the NYS Donate Life Registry, a database of more than 7.2 million New Yorkers who have documented their authorization to make an anatomical gift upon their passing.

“The Ulster County DMV is committed to raising awareness of the importance of organ donation,” said Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack.  “I encourage everyone to learn more about this lifesaving program, as you never know when you or someone you love may need an organ or tissue transplant.  By enrolling in the New York State Donate Life Registry, we are taking a powerful step towards helping to save and improve the lives of all those in need of a transplant within our community.”
