To obtain a pistol permit, please contact the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office online or by calling (845) 340-4237 or (845) 340-3639.

To transfer your pistol permit from Ulster County to another county, the following steps must be taken:

  1. Complete two "Gun License Amendment" forms. (Pistol Permit Forms)
  2. Submit two $5.00 checks or money orders, one payable to the Ulster County Clerk and the other payable to the county to which you are transferring.
  3. Mail both completed Amendment forms and the two payments to:
    Ulster County Clerk’s Office
    PO Box 1800
    Kingston, NY 12402 
  4. You are required to recertify your permit five years after the date your permit was issued and each five years thereafter.  As a permit holder, it is your responsibility to recertify your permit whether you receive a notification letter or not.
