Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack Announces Civil War Era Concert “Songs of the Irish Brigade” at the Matthewis Persen House Museum

Kingston, NY - Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack is pleased to announce that on Saturday, June 10, the Ulster County Civil War Roundtable presents “Songs of the Irish Brigade,” a concert by The Veterans in a New Field, at the Matthewis Persen House.  The historic house is located at 74 John Street in uptown Kingston, at the corner of John and Crown Streets. Admission is free, and the event is open to all.

On Saturday, June 10 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, The Veterans in a New Field will be at the Persen House.  Join the members at 2:00 pm as they perform various songs from the Irish Brigade during the Civil War, as well as songs from World War I. Through their music, this talented band continues to preserve and present the cherished melodies of the Union Irish Brigade during the American Civil War, and they have recently added songs from World War I to their repertoire. They ask listeners to please enjoy and remember the sacrifices that have been made.  Listeners are invited to enjoy and reflect on the sacrifices that have been made. Get ready to hear classic tunes such as "Marching Through Georgia," "Over There," "You're a Grand Old Flag," "The Irish Volunteer," "It's a Long Way to Tipperary," "Yankee Doodle Dandy," "Danny Boy," "Give My Regards to Broadway," "Goober Peas," and many more!

The Irish Brigade, consisting of mostly Irish Americans, served in the Union Army in the American Civil War.  This infantry brigade became known as the “Fighting 69th” and continued in later wars.  The Irish Brigade was known in part for its famous war cry, the "Faugh a Ballaugh", meaning "clear the way."  Since 1907, the Fighting 69th has been a unit of the New York National Guard.

“We are honored to once again have the members of The Veterans in a New Field play at the Persen House,” stated County Clerk Nina Postupack.  “Music plays such a large role in the history of our nation.  Being able to experience the music of our Civil War ancestors will be a memorable and entertaining event for the whole family.”
