Ulster County Clerk Welcomes Century House Historical Society to the Matthewis Persen House Museum
Kingston, NY - Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack is pleased to announce that on Saturday, July 15th, the Century House Historical Society will host an interactive information session at the Matthewis Persen House located at 74 John Street in uptown Kingston, at the corner of John and Crown Streets. Admission is free and all are welcome.
On Saturday, July 15th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, join Century House Trustee Bill Merchant to learn how the historical society preserves information about the cement industry, the related D&H Canal and railroads, local history, business documents, photographs, geological information, and much more! Century House maintains a museum on the history of the Snyder Estate, the industrial history of the Rosendale Cement District, and Rosendale history in general. Learn about the importance of cement in our region’s history and it’s use in the construction of many historic structures of the 19th century, including the Erie Canal, Brooklyn Bridge, the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty, the Capitol, the NYS Thruway, the Croton Aqueduct, and many more structures.
