Nina Postupack, Ulster County Clerk, Announces a visit by the Kingston Guards Vintage Base Ball Club to the Matthewis Persen House Museum

Nina Postupack, Ulster County Clerk, is pleased to present the Kingston Guards Vintage Base Ball Club on Saturday, July 8th, at the Matthewis Persen House Museum located at 74 John Street in uptown Kingston, at the corners of John and Crown Streets.

The Kingston Guards play “Base Ball” using the rules adopted in 1860 by the National Association and published in Beadle’s Dime Base-Ball Player. Visitors to the Persen House will have a chance to chat with the players, see vintage equipment and uniforms, and try their hand at catch just like it was done in 1860 – no gloves!

“We are extremely pleased to have the Kingston Guards join us this season,” said County Clerk Nina Postupack.  “The players preserve this unique early form of America’s great pastime, celebrating its origins and bringing an early form of Baseball to life for modern audiences. Kingston’s long history with this sport makes the Matthewis Persen House an ideal venue to introduce the community to this great tradition.”

The Persen House will be open on Saturday, July 8th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  Admission is free and all are welcome to this fun, family-friendly event!
