Ulster County Clerk Announces D-Day Presentation and Special Hours for Pinkster Celebration at Matthewis Persen House Museum

Kingston, NY - Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack is pleased to welcome Hank Yost, World War II reenactor, to the Matthewis Persen House Museum on Saturday, June 3, for a special presentation.  The museum is conveniently located at 74 John Street in uptown Kingston, at the corner of John and Crown Streets. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.

On Saturday, June 3, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, join us for an exclusive D-Day presentation led by Hank Yost, an expert on World War II history. D-Day, the historic amphibious landing that took place on June 6, 1944, marked a pivotal moment in history as Allied forces launched a massive assault on Hitler's Atlantic Fortress. With over 156,000 troops landing on five beaches along a heavily fortified 50-mile stretch of France's Normandy region, the significance of this operation cannot be overstated. Mr. Yost will delve into various aspects of the troops, tactics, and weapons used, while also shedding light on the home front and the societal changes taking place in the United States. Engaging discussions will take place throughout the day, and everyone is welcome to participate.

In addition, the Persen House will be open for special hours on Sunday, June 4, from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm as part of Transart's "Pinkster 2023: Joy Is An Act of Resistance" Celebration. We invite you to stop by and experience the fascinating exhibit titled "Africans in America and Antiquity." This exhibit showcases the rich history and culture of people of African descent in the Mid-Hudson Valley of New York State, highlighting both their recent triumphs and enduring struggles.

County Clerk Nina Postupack expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "Hank Yost brings history to life, and we couldn't be more excited to have him at the Persen House. His unwavering commitment to authentically depict pivotal moments and individuals from this extraordinary historical era is an invaluable asset to our entire community. We are equally delighted to present the captivating exhibition 'Africans in America and Antiquity,' curated by Transart, as part of the Pinkster Celebration on Sunday. This weekend promises to be an extraordinary occasion where we come together to honor our rich history and heritage."
