Ulster County Clerk Commemorates Juneteenth and New York State Path Through History Weekend
Kingston, NY – Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack is delighted to announce the Matthewis Persen House Museum's participation in the 2023 New York State Path Through History Weekend, taking place on Saturday, June 17th. This exciting event, which coincides with the celebration of Juneteenth, will showcase the rich and fascinating history of New York State through a variety of engaging activities and events held at historic and cultural destinations across the state.
The Matthewis Persen House Museum, located at 74 John Street on the corner of Crown and John Streets in uptown Kingston, will shine a spotlight on a special exhibit titled "Africans in America & Antiquity," provided by Transart & Cultural Services, Inc. This extraordinary exhibition chronicles the history and culture of people of African descent in the Mid-Hudson Valley of New York State, celebrating their recent triumphs and acknowledging their enduring struggles. The house will be open Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming event, stating, "This weekend provides an incredible opportunity for everyone to explore New York State's rich history and diverse cultural heritage. Transart’s 'Africans in America & Antiquity,' is a powerful testament to the resilience and contributions of African Americans in our region. The exhibit sheds light on the past while inspiring us to create a more inclusive future.”
Throughout the NYS Path Through History Weekend, participants will receive stickers at all participating sites, including the Persen House. Visitors are encouraged to wear their stickers proudly and share pictures on social media platforms using the hashtag #PTHWeekend along with the event location.
