Ulster County Clerk Welcomes D&H Canal Museum Historian to the Matthewis Persen House Museum

Kingston, NY - Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack is pleased to announce that on Saturday, June 29th, the D&H Canal Historical Society Museum will host an interactive information session at the Matthewis Persen House, located at 74 John Street in uptown Kingston, at the corner of John and Crown Streets. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Join D&H Canal Museum Historian Bill Merchant on Saturday, June 29th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm to learn about the D&H Canal and its contributions to Ulster County’s transportation and commercial growth in the late 19th century. Additionally, hear about the new Mid-Hudson Visitor Center and D&H Canal Museum located in the 1797 stone DePuy Tavern building. The Visitor Center provides information on many local sites and attractions, while the Museum preserves canal-era artifacts and documents the canal’s creation, operation, and significance as an engine of economic development in the region and beyond.

County Clerk Nina Postupack expressed her gratitude to the D&H Canal Historical Society for their dedication to preserving Ulster County's industrial heritage. "Their efforts in safeguarding the stories and artifacts of our past are invaluable," she said. "The D&H Canal played a crucial role in the development of our region, and through the work of the Historical Society, these significant contributions are not forgotten. We are thrilled to have historian Bill Merchant with us to share his extensive knowledge and insights. This event at the Persen House is a wonderful opportunity for the community to connect with our rich history and learn more about the canal's impact on Ulster County and beyond."
