6/3 WWII D-Day Event by Hank Yost

Join us to commemorate the biggest amphibious landing in history - D-Day, June 6, 1944. Over 156,000 Allied forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region, assaulting Hitler’s Atlantic Fortress.

Experience a living history display with World War II reenactors who will provide an immersive experience and discuss various aspects of the troops, tactics, and weapons used during the invasion. Additionally, they will shed light on what was happening on the home front and the changes in US society during this period.

Kingston, NY - Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack is delighted to announce that on Saturday, July 13, 2024, Revolutionary War medical reenactor Don Terpening will host a special event at the Matthewis Persen House, located at 74 John Street in uptown Kingston, at the corner of John and Crown Streets.

7/15 Century House Museum Historian Meet & Greet

The Century House Historical Society in Rosendale plays host to the rich stories of some of our region’s most iconic historic industries. The site, which includes the Widow Jane Mine, offers visitors a unique window into the work that built America by celebrating the intertwined legacies of the railroads, canal infrastructure, and cement manufacturing that once called Ulster County home.

7/29 Wiltwyck Quilters Guild

The Wiltwyck Quilters’ Guild has been a vibrant part of the Kingston community since its founding in the late 1970s by a group of women who came together to create a quilt to commemorate the Bicentennial. Today, the Guild continues to thrive, offering a variety of workshops, hosting quilt shows, and engaging in charitable work for the community. Although the Guild takes a break over the summer, it meets monthly and always welcomes new members who are passionate about quilting.

7/8 Kingston Guards Vintage Baseball

Spend the day with one of Ulster County’s vintage baseball teams!  An old-time baseball game is old-time community fun. Step back in time and see how baseball was played 150 years ago. Vintage uniforms, 1860s rules (no gloves), and old-fashioned thrills for the whole family.  Meet members of the team, try tossing a vintage ball, and grab a copy of the Guards’ season schedule!

8/12 Theatre on the Road – Matthewis Persen Reenactor

Meet Matthewis Persen, a key figure in Kingston’s history! Join us for an engaging and interactive experience as Persen himself talks about his life during the Revolution, the roles he played, and the aftermath of the burning of Kingston by British forces. Learn about the history of Persen's tavern, which served as a hub for like-minded patriots during the war, and how he balanced running the tavern with serving in the militia. This is a unique opportunity to interact with a historical figure and gain a firsthand feel for what life was really like during the Revolutionary War.

8/19 MyKingstonKids Photography Now! Event

Discover the power of photography and the incredible talent of young artists at the MyKingstonKids Photography Now exhibit. This free event showcases the amazing work of students from this popular MKK program led by local professional photographer and program director, Star Nigro. Through this program, students have delved into the history and techniques of photography, from cell phone cameras to professional-grade DSLRs. Come see their stunning images on display and experience the world through the eyes of these talented young photographers.

Meet Nancy Chando, Friends of Historic Kingston walk tour guide and board member. She will be available to answer visitors’ questions and share her presentation of the “Early Settlers of Wiltwyck” with a continuous PowerPoint presentation. Learn about the Kingston stockade and its strong legacy of centuries of early Dutch influence in a complex and diverse community.

Kingston, NY – Acting Ulster County Clerk Taylor Bruck is pleased to welcome Hank Yost, historical reenactor, to the Matthewis Persen House Museum on Saturday, August 31st for a special presentation.  The museum is conveniently located at 74 John Street in uptown Kingston, at the corner of John and Crown Streets. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.

8/5 1665 Peace Treaty Renewal and Tree Planting

ULSTER COUNTY TO PARTICIPATE IN PEACE TREE PLANTING AND RENEWAL OF 1665 PEACE TREATY WITH LOCAL NATIVE AMERICAN DESCENDANTS

Kingston, NY – Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack is honored to announce a ceremonial Peace Tree Planting and an historic Peace Treaty Renewal between Ulster County and the Ramapough Lenape Nation, renewing the 1665 Richard Nicolls Esopus Peace Treaty which is part of the Ulster County Clerk’s Archival Collection.  The renewal will take place Friday, August 5th at the Hudson River Maritime Museum, 50 Rondout Landing, Kingston.

Join us in commemorating this historic event with a living history display featuring World War II reenactors. The reenactors will also shed light on what was happening on the home front and the changes in US society during this period.
