Sojourner Truth’s documents on display in Celebration of Black History Month

In celebration of Black History Month, the Ulster County Surrogates Court and Ulster County Clerk's Office have worked together to present an exhibit on the life of Sojourner Truth in Ulster County. The exhibit is on display in the Courtroom of the Surrogates Court in the Ulster County Office Building, 244 Fair Street, 3rd Floor, Kingston. Visitors are welcome to view the exhibit on Fridays by appointment. To make an appointment, please call the Surrogates Court at (845) 481-9338.

ULSTER COUNTY CLERK WARNS OF ONGOING DMV TEXT MESSAGE SCAM

Kingston, NY – Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack warns residents of an ongoing text messaging scam asking recipients to update their mailing address and contact information. The messages may reference Real ID compliance or updated regulations. Anyone who received such a text message should delete it right away.

The following is an example of one of the text messages:

ULSTER COUNTY CLERK WARNS OF TEXT MESSAGE SCAM REGARDING NYS DMV

Kingston, NY – Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack warns residents of a new text messaging scam indicating changes to personal DMV records. The messages appear to be from the NYS DMV and may include a payment or repayment request. The message asks the recipient to click a link to verify the changes and/or make a payment.  Anyone who received such a text message should delete it right away.

By coordinating the work of town historians and local historical societies, the County Historian ensures a cohesive approach to historic preservation and acts as an advocate for our collective heritage. This position fulfills Ulster County’s commitment, as outlined in New York State Law 57.07, to maintain a full-time historian, dedicated to interpreting the past through research, writing, teaching, and public presentations.
